YOUTHFUL YOKE, A BETTER BURDEN

By Pastor Vanda Odoi ICGC, Anyaa .  One day on His earth walk, The Lord Jesus cried out loud, 'Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls_ .' For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light (Matthew 11:28-30) The old testament had already mentioned, _'It is good for a man that he bear the yoke while he is young_ (Lam. 3:27) A YOUTH is defined collectively as young people. Also, the time of life between childhood and old age. A YOKE is defined as a rough treatment or something that restricts your freedom and makes your life very difficult to bear (Oxford dictionary) There are two kinds of yokes and burdens. The old testament prophet Isaiah spoke of one which needs to be broken and lifted off by the power of the anointing.(Isaiah 10:27) The other is what The Lord Jesus also spoke of. That is the focus now. A ...

A CASE AGAINST CORRUPTION (Bartok’s Speech: Last Knights)

I was watching a movie “Last Knights” and about 26 minutes in Morgan Freeman (as Bartok) is brought before the emperor to answer for a crime of attacking a minister, (Geza Mote). The real crime, however, was that he refused to pay a bribe to this minister. In the trial he makes a speech, a case against corruption and corrupt leaders, that I think all in our current generation should know or, in this case, read. Note that the speech, while minimally edited in part, retains its original meaning. In a rousing rhetoric he says: "What has just been said of me is true. I offer no argument nor dispute, these simple facts but they hardly begin to cover the scope of my true crimes. Honour requires more than admission, so I offer a full confession and the whole truth. For far too long I’ve failed to recognize my own… Hypocrisy. I ignored my own cowardice, conveniently hiding behind a position of political compromise; and for what? To retain the meager wealth and rank that men desire. So...

Hyper-Sexual Church

From time to time, I ponder the state of the Christian church and address issues that I deem pertinent to our growth and advancement. This article seeks to address one such issue. One major problem, I have observed, with the church today is that it has become Hyper-Sexual . In recent times, it seems as though the church has become so interested in sex and sexual sin that it's all we talk about. We go to church and from behind the pulpit, it's what we hear. We check social media and it's there. You have a discussion with a Christian brother or sister and it somehow creeps in and takes over the conversation. Sometimes, it seems we can't talk about Christianity without mentioning sexual sin. It almost feels as if we get off on it (pun intended). Sadly, we are so preoccupied with this one issue that other forms of sin, which are equally grave, seem to pale in comparison. Once we mention words like adultery, fornication and maturation, others like lies, pride, theft, dish...

Dumb Millennials (The Plight of The 21st Century)

people between up to the age  of 35 are becoming dumber and dumber Something has been bugging me lately. I have realized that young people up to the age  of 35 are becoming dumber and dumber. Most of us are unwilling to learn anything new. We pick all our information from popular media, telenovelas, social media and what not. I seldom see people reading books lately, except when they have to cram for an exam, or they need the information to get marks. They attend school, conferences and lectures everyday but they don’t care about what is being taught. You see, they learn for the marks, not to improve themselves. They will spend several hours having unproductive conversations about some so-called ‘celebrity’ and and his or her personal life. He studies maths but he doesn’t know Richard Fineman. Physics student, do you know Stephen Hawking or Nicola Tesla or Blaise Pascal? We know nothing about history or what to make of the future, and the English students are murdering the...

Facebook or Buttbook? (Sexual Exhibitionism)

I look on Facebook and I see all these girls using pictures of their butts as their profile pictures. First, for your information, it's called Facebook , not Buttbook . And I don't think that's the right way to get attention unless you are a.... (well you know). This is how you attract all the wrong attention. You get men to treat you and talk about you like sexual objects and use all kinds nasty disrespectful adjectives to describe you.  This attitude is what I call Sexual Exhibitionism . Forgive me if I sound harsh, but if you do that you are no different from a prostitute, except your place of work is not the roadside but online. Now let's get a little deeper, shall we? I know most you are professing Christians. But you see, the problem here is that a lot of other Christian brothers have issues with their desires already and your pictures fuel these desires. This is called DEFRAUDING . Again by doing so, we leave the world no example and we give no example to youn...

To A Young Christian

This is to the Christian youth, especially one who is academically inclined. Sometimes the knowledge we gain in modern education raises questions in our minds, which, if unchecked, puts our faith and, by extension, the entire future of Christiandom in dire jeopardy. I am often saddened anytime another of the “educated“ brethren proclaims “I an an atheist or agnostic now“. They render the work of Jesus in their lives of no importance and set themselves to discredit God’s Word by any means possible. However, the words of my Lord are sure as a solid rock, immovable and infallible and it will not prove false, not even a stroke of it, but will continue to work out the Almighty’s purposes even unto eternity. Amen. Not many nights ago I had a hot battle of sorts on Twitter with some so-called educated characters on the subject of the tangible existence of God. I was flummoxed by how most people were ready to accept the Theory of Evolution,  and hastily, yet, strongl...
