YOUTHFUL YOKE, A BETTER BURDEN

By Pastor Vanda Odoi

One day on His earth walk, The Lord Jesus cried out loud, 'Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls_ .'
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light (Matthew 11:28-30)

The old testament had already mentioned, _'It is good for a man that he bear the yoke while he is young_ (Lam. 3:27)

A YOUTH is defined collectively as young people. Also, the time of life between childhood and old age.

A YOKE is defined as a rough treatment or something that restricts your freedom and makes your life very difficult to bear (Oxford dictionary)

There are two kinds of yokes and burdens. The old testament prophet Isaiah spoke of one which needs to be broken and lifted off by the power of the anointing.(Isaiah 10:27)
The other is what The Lord Jesus also spoke of. That is the focus now. A promised rest from the latter. This kind only comes by the anointing.

The Lord Jesus Christ has promised 'ALL' a rest from the yoke and burden of oppression into His yoke and burden, which He describes as easy and light. A yoke and a burden that gives rest_a statement that sound like a beautiful line of oxymoron. But i don't think The Lord had any pleasure with just good lines of literary work.

In actual fact He was speaking of a total rest, something the mortal part of us wouldn't enjoy its process because it contradicts its desires.

Dying daily to the flesh is its yoke and burden because it always desire to be alive and satisfied. Anything contrary to this is an oppression and a burden to it.

But o youth, your compassionate Saviour calls it an easy yoke and a light burden for your eternal comfort. A burden that brings tears of joy and a yoke that glitters more than all the fading treasure of the world.
The old testament Prophet, having an inspiration from The Lord says 'it is good for a man that he bear the yoke while he is young'.
WHY?

' _Because the glory of the youth is their strength'(prov. 20:29)_
You don't have to say ..
1. I will bear that later, but for now i have to enjoy my youth.
2. I am too young to go through it.
3. Let me finish this and that first.
DON'T GIVE UP and DON'T WAIT TILL YOUR STRENGTH FAILS YOU.
Bearing the yoke and the 'better' burden in your youth gives you an advantage over the weaknesses and pains of old age_regrets, unfulfilled purposes, feebleness in body etc.
I'm proud to serve The with all of mine as a youth.

A CASE AGAINST CORRUPTION (Bartok’s Speech: Last Knights)

I was watching a movie “Last Knights” and about 26 minutes in Morgan Freeman (as Bartok) is brought before the emperor to answer for a crime of attacking a minister, (Geza Mote). The real crime, however, was that he refused to pay a bribe to this minister. In the trial he makes a speech, a case against corruption and corrupt leaders, that I think all in our current generation should know or, in this case, read. Note that the speech, while minimally edited in part, retains its original meaning. In a rousing rhetoric he says: "What has just been said of me is true. I offer no argument nor dispute, these simple facts but they hardly begin to cover the scope of my true crimes. Honour requires more than admission, so I offer a full confession and the whole truth. For far too long I’ve failed to recognize my own… Hypocrisy. I ignored my own cowardice, conveniently hiding behind a position of political compromise; and for what? To retain the meager wealth and rank that men desire. So...

To A Young Christian

This is to the Christian youth, especially one who is academically inclined. Sometimes the knowledge we gain in modern education raises questions in our minds, which, if unchecked, puts our faith and, by extension, the entire future of Christiandom in dire jeopardy. I am often saddened anytime another of the “educated“ brethren proclaims “I an an atheist or agnostic now“. They render the work of Jesus in their lives of no importance and set themselves to discredit God’s Word by any means possible. However, the words of my Lord are sure as a solid rock, immovable and infallible and it will not prove false, not even a stroke of it, but will continue to work out the Almighty’s purposes even unto eternity. Amen. Not many nights ago I had a hot battle of sorts on Twitter with some so-called educated characters on the subject of the tangible existence of God. I was flummoxed by how most people were ready to accept the Theory of Evolution,  and hastily, yet, strongl...
